Capacitance aptasensors were developed for the detection of the breast cancer biomarker HER2. A simple surface chemistry is used to immobilize thiolated aptamers on interdigitated microelectrodes. Single frequency capacitance measurements provide low limits of detection (1 pM) and high dynamic range (1 pM – 100 nM). Selectivity confirmed against the homologous protein HER4 as well as PSA, thrombin and serum proteins. Sensors perform within clinical range of HER2 in undiluted serum.
